This is Season 2 Episode 11- Putnam Teacher Development Program.
Thanks for joining us as Superintendent Arena talks with Dr. Fernando Aker and Ms Renee Burgdorf as well as former students on their way to becoming teachers in  Putnam County Charter Schools - Jared Coronado, Ravi Hudson, and Carmen Harden. The program began in 2018 and is focused on reaching out to graduates of Putnam County Schools and seeking to give them a chance to return to their alma mater as teachers.
Mr. Arena, Dr. Aker, and Ms. Burgdorf share their memories of the design and implementation of the program and the former students share their tales of working with kids, peers who once were their teachers, and learning how to teach.

Charles (Charlie) F. Winslette is a 1967 graduate of Putnam County Schools. He won a state championship as a football player at Putnam County and has won two other state championships in football as a head coach - West Rome 1985 and Greene-Taliaferro - 1993. He is part of an elite group that has accomplished championships as a player and as a head coach. Over his 49 years in education Charlie Winslette left his footprint. He has been recognized for his success in athletics by many organizations. He has made programs grow and be successful throughout the state. As a result, he has been inducted into 5 Halls of Fame in Georgia: Fayette County High School Sports Hall of Fame (2006), Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2013), Georgia Athletic director's Association Hall of Fame (2016), Rome-Floyd County Sports Hall of Fame (2016), and Tift County Athletic Hall of Fame (2018). Charlie's career comes full circle as he has returned to Putnam County to coach the football team. You will love this interview. Charlie shares stories from his days as a student athlete to his 49years as an educator and coach. His stories are fun and enlightening. In this episode Amaya Banks and Ivy Carnes join Superintendent of PCSS - Eric Arena to talk about being graduates of PCSS and returning to work with PCSS as teachers.
Amaya is a 2018 graduate of PCSS who attended Kennesaw State University in Marietta, Georgia and has returned to teach as a 7th grade science teacher.
Ivy Carnes was the valedictorian of her class in 2004 at PCSS. She attended Georgia State College and University in Milledgeville, Georgia and after a short visit to another school system returned to her alma mater to teach computer science to kindergarten through second grade students.
We talk about their memories, lessons learned, and advice to future graduates. What a cool conversation!
