Stepping Up: The Heart and Sole of Shoes 4 Kids
Shoes 4 Kids is a signature project for the Putnam and Green County Rotary Club. This initiative enables the club to supply 120 children with a brand-new pair of shoes, a backpack, and a pair of socks for students in Putnam and Greene Counties. For some of these kids, this will be their very first pair of new shoes, making it a truly impactful experience. By meeting these essential needs, you can enhance their learning opportunities.
This project not only fulfills a practical need but also boosts the children's confidence and self-esteem, knowing they have the necessary resources to participate fully in school activities. Furthermore, Shoes 4 Kids aligns with the Rotary Club's broader mission of service and community support, fostering a sense of care and solidarity among local residents. The impact of this initiative reaches beyond the immediate recipients, as it inspires others in the community to contribute and support similar causes.
Each year, volunteers come together to make this event a success, from fundraising efforts to organizing distribution days. This collaboration not only strengthens community bonds but also provides an opportunity for members to engage in meaningful service. As these children step into their new shoes, they carry with them not just a tangible gift, but the knowledge that their community supports and believes in their potential.

Curtains Up: Unveiling the Power of Theatre in Elementary Education
Theatre plays a crucial role in elementary education, significantly contributing to both personal and academic growth among students. One of the primary benefits is the enhancement of communication skills, as children engage in dialogue practice and performance, which improves their verbal articulation and listening abilities. Additionally, theatre encourages confidence building, allowing students to explore new characters and boosting their self-esteem through positive feedback from peers and teachers.
Theatre promotes teamwork, teaching essential social skills such as cooperation and empathy as students work together in various productions. It also stimulates creativity and imagination, fostering creative thinking that aids in cognitive development and problem-solving skills.

PCHS Sophomore Student Government Council. This is season 4 episode 9 of the Putnam Proud Podcast.
The Class of 2027 Student Government Council is poised for excellence as they begin the year with a new team of officers and members eager to make a difference. Their enthusiasm was evident in their first major philanthropy event, a supply drive for the victims of Hurricane Helene. The drive was a resounding success, collecting over 100 cases of water, gas cans, diapers, pipes, and non-perishable food items.
In addition to their philanthropic efforts, the officers engaged in valuable learning experiences at the Putnam County Courthouse and the Georgia State Capitol. These visits provided them with insights into the workings of local and state government.
Looking ahead, the Class of 2027 is planning an exciting trip to Washington, D.C. this spring, promising more opportunities for growth and learning. The future looks bright for these dedicated students as they continue to make a positive impact in their community. Please contact sponsors Mrs. April Smith, Mrs. Kim Schell or Lieutenant Colonel Adkinson for more information.

"Homelands: Learning from Oklahoma's Indigenous Communities"
The Cherokees express gratitude by saying “wado,” while the Muscogee people say “mvto.” Regardless of the language, we are deeply thankful for the invaluable teaching and learning experience some of our Putnam County High School students had during their Native American Homelands trip to Oklahoma this Fall. Their journey embraced themes of continuity, community, and creativity as they explored the intertwined histories of Black and Native American peoples after the Trail of Tears through place-based encounters and meaningful dialogues with descendant communities.
Their adventure began in Tulsa with the Real Black Wall Street Walking Tour, exploring the history of a Black business district destroyed during the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. At Greenwood Rising, students learned about the pain and resilience of this history through multisensory exhibits. They visited Council Oak Park, a sacred site for the Muscogee (Creek) people, and were welcomed at the Oklahoma Indian Territory Museum of Black Creek Freedmen History, where they explored the histories of African-Indigenous communities. The First Americans Museum showcased the strength of the thirty-nine Native American nations in Oklahoma. The journey concluded in Tahlequah, the Cherokee Nation capital, with a tour of the Cherokee National History Museum, a game of stickball, and a traditional Cherokee Hog Fry featuring a community feast and basket weaving lessons from a Cherokee National Treasure.
Throughout the trip, students compiled journals to narrate their personal experiences, and the key lessons learned, some of which are highlighted in the podcast. Knowledge-sharing will continue through community presentations, creative projects, and new historical research initiatives that aim to strengthen our connections with the numerous communities that graciously welcomed our staff and students during their time in their homelands.

Charting New Paths: The Trailblazers Program Welcomes a New Educator
Trailblazer: a person who is the leader in a particular field, especially who does a particular thing before anyone else does. The term Trailblazer in and of itself creates an environment where students have the opportunity to become leaders in the classroom and the communities in which they live. The vision for the Trailblazer program is to create a culture that transitions students from a fixed to growth mindset and instilling that belief within themselves that “they can do hard things” with just a little grit and perseverance! The first 9 weeks of school have been spent developing this culture that will be the catalyst for our future project-based learning. We want our students to find their place IN the classroom while creating unique learning opportunities that are outside of the box! This is fostered by not lowering expectations but meeting our students right where they are.
This year, the program welcomes a new teacher, Mrs. Jessica Salmon, at the forefront, but their motto stays unchanged: “We have trails to blaze.” With the support and encouragement of Mrs. Salmon and Mrs. Frazzitta, this incredible group of Trailblazers is going to do just that!

Career Ready: PCCSS' College and Career Academy
Did you know that Putnam County High School is a Georgia College & Career Academy? Putnam County’s College and Career Academy (PCCCA) provides students with opportunities to develop their academic knowledge, their technical skills, and their employability skills. All PCHS students have a number of opportunities to complete pathways in Advanced Academics, Career, Technical, & Agricultural Education, Fine Arts, while also participating in a Work-Based Learning Placement or Service Leadership.
The PCCCA’s goal is to ensure that every student graduates with a clear plan for success that aligns with realistic objectives. This looks different for each student, and school administers, teachers and counselors are all here to guide them as they navigate and prepare for the opportunities that lie ahead.
Support from businesses, industries, and the community is essential for our College and Career Academy’s success, as students need to acquire "real-world" experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The PCCCA has a fantastic Board of Directors comprised of key stakeholders who are actively engaged and invested in Putnam County’s teachers, programs, and students. This team understands the significance of connectivity and is devoted to fostering a stronger community. By collaborating with these partners, PCCCA is establishing a pipeline that equips Putnam County’s youth with a competitive advantage for their next life chapter, enabling them to earn not just high school credits, but also college credits and industry-recognized credentials.

"Literature and Learning: PCCSS’ Partnership with the Georgia Writers Museum"
The Putnam County Charter School System (PCCSS) is beyond #PutnamProud of our partnership with the Georgia Writers Museum (GWM). GWM is dedicated to nurturing and inspiring future generations of Georgia authors, and one of the ways they achieve this is by giving back to the students of Putnam County.
To the joy of our PCPS students, they have launched a “Storytime” program where museum representatives visit classrooms throughout the year to read children’s books authored by Georgia writers. GWM also organizes a highly popular “Spooky Story” contest for 3rd through 8th graders, motivating students to enhance their creative writing skills beyond the classroom. While this is a state-wide contest, we are pleased to share that Putnam County is consistently well represented, both in terms of submissions and among the winners. At our middle school, they have facilitated several “Meet the Author” and “Writing Workshop” events, which have proven beneficial for both enthusiastic writers and those who find it challenging to express themselves on paper. Each year, the museum also engages our high school’s Service Leadership class as their official Junior Board of Directors, providing students with a unique chance to plan a culminating project for their peers and the wider community. Previous boards have enjoyed considerable success with their “LIVE Bookfairs,” where books come to life, and “Meet Me at the Table” dinner parties that celebrate Georgia authors and their literary journeys.
In addition to their collaboration with PCCSS, the Georgia Writers Museum has something to offer everyone in the community. So, whether you're looking to hone your craft at one of their writing workshops, explore the latest True Crime case, meet your favorite Georgia author, find a quiet place to read, or simply explore the rich literary heritage of Georgia, the Georgia Writers Museum is definitely the place for you!

The Importance of the ESPLOST Vote for Putnam County Charter School System
As we approach the ballot this November, it's crucial for the community to understand the significance of the ESPLOST vote. While we are not here to tell anyone how to vote, we want to highlight the immense value that the ESPLOST penny tax holds for the Putnam County Charter School System (PCCSS).
A Legacy of Enhancements
Over the past 24 years, the ESPLOST funds have been instrumental in transforming our school system. These funds have allowed us to:
Enhance Safety and Security: Implementing measures to protect our students and staff.
Construct New Buildings: Providing modern and spacious environments conducive to learning.
Renovate Existing Structures: Ensuring our facilities remain safe and up-to-date.
Upgrade Technology: Equipping our students and staff with the latest technological tools to enhance education.
Improve Transportation: Ensuring safe and efficient transportation for our students.
Continuation, Not a New Tax
One of the most important messages we want to convey is that this is not a new tax. The ESPLOST is simply a continuation of the current penny tax that has been in place since it was first approved in 2000. This means no additional tax burden on the community; it merely extends the existing support that has been vital to our school system's success.
Alleviating Financial Strain
The ESPLOST is designed to help PCCSS manage its budget effectively. By supporting this penny tax, we can keep our budget at a manageable rate and reduce the financial burden on local homeowners. This is a community effort to ensure our schools remain well-funded and capable of providing top-notch education.
Your Awareness Matters
As we near the vote, please understand the profound impact that your decision will have on our schools and community. The ESPLOST funds have been a cornerstone of our development and will continue to be essential for our future growth and stability.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about the significance of the ESPLOST vote.

Summer Scholars: PCCSS' College Experiences
This is Season 4 Episode 2 of the Putnam Proud Podcast.
During this summer, scholars from PCMS and PCHS embarked on an educational journey to three different college campuses to immerse themselves in the "College Life" for a week. They stayed in dormitories, ate in cafeterias, and deepened their knowledge of admission criteria, time management, and financial literacy. The Albany State University (ASU), Oxford College of Emory University, and Davidson College Summer Promise programs were aimed at giving rising 9th graders to seniors a taste of college life to boost their confidence and interest in staying committed to high school and pursuing higher education.
Each campus experience was unique, offering various activities tailored to the location and community. For instance, students at the Oxford Summer Experience participated in STEAM labs, life skills workshops, and college and career readiness sessions. Meanwhile, at ASU, scholars delved into subjects such as Industrial Engineering, Ergonomics, Physics, Mathematics, and Writing. The scholars also visited educational sites like the Albany Civil Rights Museum, the Riverquarium, Thronateeska, Chehaw Park and Zoo, and Jimmy's Hot Dogs, linked to the Albany Civil Rights Movement.
The programs concluded with parents and school leaders visiting the universities to witness the students' presentations on their week-long learning experiences. These summer initiatives aimed to foster enduring relationships between university faculty, PCHS staff, students, and families. We are #PutnamProud of these opportunities and look forward to continuing to offer them to our students in the future.
